The active carbon cartridge filter contained 1.2 g of Lime, 0.1 g of Iron rust, 0.5 mg of Lead, 7.5 g of Total organic matter, and 77.5 g of Sands and impurities.
Apart from a slightly higher Lime level, the impurity content in this cartridge filter was the highest in this analysis. Lime content is one of the indicators for water hardness, which is one of its inherent features and may affect the tastes of drinking water. Probably due to the types of pipelines used in the water supply system, for example Iron rust pipes, old-style plumping, the Lead pipes of taps and fittings, or because of rusting and corrosion within certain parts of the Iron rust pipes, Iron rust and Lead substances were found in the water. If unfiltered water was taken, excessive drinking of such high impurities is harmful to the liver and nervous system. The presence of some sands and impurities may have been due to the sands and dirt in the plumbing, water towers and water tanks, which were carried to the households along with water supplies.
Remarks
1 The cartridge filters tested in this analysis were used over one year or have filtered 5,000 L of water.
2 Due to the potential experimental error derived from the preservation method after filter collects, only those parameters which are not affected by time variables are selected for the analysis. These include quantity of iron rust, lead, lime, sand, mud, sediments, and organic matters. Liming content and iron rust content are reflected in calcium content and iron content respectively.
3 Apart from the parameters being tested in this analysis, the drinking water may contain other organic matter.
